Suddenly your children are learning from home, you are no longer working from home alone. During this Covid-19 pandemic, physical schooling has turn into a home-based schooling. You are having Zoom call with your colleagues and customers. At the other corner of the house, your kids are having Zoom call with their teachers and classmates.
As a full-time work from home mom, how are you going to cope? There is no longer peace in the house where you can focus on your job.
New routine
First of all, re-look at your day-to-day schedule. You need to rewrite your timetable to fit in the time to cook for your kids and to coach them with their school work. Expect some hiccups along the way while both you and the kids settle in with the new schedule, the new norm. Do not push yourself too hard, embrace the chaotic moments and you will be fine!
Together time vs me time
One of the major challenge is how to balance family together time and alone time. Allocate a time each day where the kids can play or study without your supervision. This can teach them to be independent as well as you can have your much needed me time. On the other hand, exercising can be made a fun and healthy family time, where all can perform Zumba, Tabata workout or Yoga together.
Socializing in a new normal
Socialization is important for grown-ups and children alike. Arrange Zoom playdates so the children can continue to mingle with their friends. There are many ways they can play together online. Below are some amazing ideas to start with:
- Take turn to read a story
- Can have family member to conduct classes online – such as Yoga, art and craft
- Online show and tell
- And of course online gaming which we try to minimize as much as possible but the kids simply love this
